Time to renew registration, $$$ ouch!

Just got the bill to renew the registration on my 06 F-150, $175 ouch! Seems high for a 7 year old truck but guess I just forgot the amount from last year. Got me to thinking, since most of the registration is based upon the value just how much are folks pay for these gorgeous new trucks that roll off the showroom floor at 40, 50 or even $60,000?

We only paid $10K for our (used), 08 TT so it isn't too bad but the new trailers, especially the big dollar fivers must be a serious hit and then there are the Motor Coaches, wow! What do they hit you for a $250K Class A? I guess if you have to ask you cannot afford it, certainly true in my case. No wonder some folks don't mind forking out $40 or $50 a night for RV parks. After the cost of insurance and registration that seems almost reasonable. :S

No, that's wrong. The highest cost per mile is Jersey, followed by Massachusetts. Also note: you would CRY if you saw what trucks pay for tags! The box truck I drive is $500+ per year. The single-axle tractors at work are $1100, I recall our twin-screw tractor is $1400.

I just through up.

Something like $275.00 for my 93 Chevy pickup.

$550.00 or so for my 06 Dmax.

Ya I bet you can guess where I live just by the numbers.

My 07 Duramax was $389, why so much difference. I would think yours would be lower.

Here in Nc it depends on where you are located city/county. Registration itself is either $28 or $35..I forget which one, but your tax is dependent on your location. Just got the tax bill on my wife's brand new 2103 Ford Explorer. Only $160 as we live in the county and not in any city limits. If we lived in Charlotte just 30 (not even that far technically) then it would be more than double that. Heck just a few miles from where we live in mooresville city limits it would be double of what we pay. I'm expecting a tax bill on our motorhome of about $350.

I don't feel like you save a "ton of money" in SD any longer. I just received my tag renewal for my Class A 2007 and it was $318 (last year was $268). It was $48 for my 12' enclosed trailer.

Not cheap any more!!! Florida is definitely less expensive for full-timers.

You have to compare insurance rates also.

Only a 9.25% sales tax and no income tax is a good deal compared to some states. Minnesota charges almost 7% base sales tax plus income tax as high as about 8%. Real estate taxes are not exactly cheap either.

My motorhome costs me $275 a year for registration with no discount for older units. There is no personal property tax at least.

Funny you should mention 'property' taxes - this thread is about the cost of vehicle tag renewals and I am a full-timer now. In TN you do not pay personal or individual property taxes on ANY vehicles, regardless of weight or anything else. But as for real property, even when I owned over 60 ACRES my entire property tax bill was under $2000 a year, and that included a house and barns. TN also has NO state income tax, anywhere, except for on income from interest or dividends (and even that has a threshold level).

The bottom line is that every jurisdiction is going to get the money out of your hide one way or another.

I pay $500 for a car the size of a shoebox BUT I do NOT have income tax. For the most part taxes for me are consumption based, hence $9gal gas.

If I consume, especially the luxuries, I pay more tax. My choice. No paperwork to fill out every April for me.

DH just returned from a trip to visit friends in AK, and he also hit the DMV while he was there.

Cost was $398 for renewing his DL wih triple trailer CDL, bus and motorcycle endorsements, AND new registrations on a 35' gooseneck flatbed trailer, 36' Sundowner horse trailer, and a 12' enclosed cargo trailer. Pretty cheap.
