License it in South Dakota and save a ton of money. Real easy.
I don't feel like you save a "ton of money" in SD any longer. I just received my tag renewal for my Class A 2007 and it was $318 (last year was $268). It was $48 for my 12' enclosed trailer.
Not cheap any more!!! Florida is definitely less expensive for full-timers.
You have to compare insurance rates also.
Oh sorry, I thought this thread was about vehicle registration fees.:S
If you would like insurance info -- well, it was only $92 more to insure my rig in FL than SD and the tags decreased by $245. So I will gladly pay that additional $92 in insurance to save that extra $245 that I paid to the state of SD. $153 will pay for quite afew "brewskis" siting at my campsite. :B

SC is a lot less expensive than NY (I moved from NY 7 years ago). In NY I had to pay 8.5 % sales tax on any vehicles (cars trucks & RVs) SC has a maximum sales tax of $300 on all vehicles. Also if your RV meets certain requirements (Toilet, kitchen etc it is taxed as a second home at a lower rate. Everything is cheaper here
That's music to my ears as we recently purchased a home there and will be moving there within a year.

BigBoy11 wrote:PA also registers trucks by GVWR. My car costs just $36/yr, but Truckasaurus costs $200/yr, and that's only because I reported it as having an 11k GVWR. It's actually 15k, which would cost $288/yr. The fiver would be $27/yr, but we opted for a permanent registration for a one time fee of $135.00.
Just paid $36 for renewal registration for my 2011 Expedition and $60 for a 5 year renewal of my 2012 Kodiak travel trailer. We do have to get a yearly safety inspection which varies from inspection station to inspection station but averages around $25. That applies to autos and RV's, TT's, etc. But, we get gigged elsewhere as PA has plenty of taxes, just not on vehicles.

Hush Dutch, don't mention any additional fees in NY cause Albany never saw a fee they didn't like. Truck, dually is 60 a year plus another 60 for my special plates. Trailer is now $220 a year. Don't even want to think about the 7% sales tax paid at purchase.
Just bought a 14 foot fishing boat, 7% sales tax and another $72 for registration, title fee and surcharge. Nobody knows what the surcharge is supposed to be for.
Bill
The special plate fee is your choice of course, but looking at what some other states charge, even with that, we're getting off pretty easy. As I recall, the boat reg surcharge pays for various boating safety programs, including the materials for the boating safety course that children under 18 are required to take to operate a boat, and is also highly recommended for adult operators.
