Time to renew registration, $$$ ouch!

Just got the bill to renew the registration on my 06 F-150, $175 ouch! Seems high for a 7 year old truck but guess I just forgot the amount from last year. Got me to thinking, since most of the registration is based upon the value just how much are folks pay for these gorgeous new trucks that roll off the showroom floor at 40, 50 or even $60,000?

We only paid $10K for our (used), 08 TT so it isn't too bad but the new trailers, especially the big dollar fivers must be a serious hit and then there are the Motor Coaches, wow! What do they hit you for a $250K Class A? I guess if you have to ask you cannot afford it, certainly true in my case. No wonder some folks don't mind forking out $40 or $50 a night for RV parks. After the cost of insurance and registration that seems almost reasonable. :S

Just paid $36 for renewal registration for my 2011 Expedition and $60 for a 5 year renewal of my 2012 Kodiak travel trailer. We do have to get a yearly safety inspection which varies from inspection station to inspection station but averages around $25. That applies to autos and RV's, TT's, etc. But, we get gigged elsewhere as PA has plenty of taxes, just not on vehicles.

It will get cheaper. I just spent $28 for the e test and $97 for the tag, today. Just another reason why my 03 is a keeper. Craig

There is no way unless one does an extensive study to compare overall taxes paid (real property, personal property, state sales tax, special assessments, etc.) to the registration paid on your vehicles.

Some states obviously have a high cost of living like New York and California, others could surprise you.

Something like $275.00 for my 93 Chevy pickup.

$550.00 or so for my 06 Dmax.

Ya I bet you can guess where I live just by the numbers.

High tab fees and your state is still broke.

At least your Booze is cheap! Costco vodka in CA $27, in WA $47.

The state is broke because of the high cost of providing education, medical care and social programs to people that come from a certain country located just south of the state of California. That is why I LEFT and why the state is broke. My wife is retired from teaching 2nd and 3rd grades and guess which pupils received the FREE breakfast and lunches paid for the Federal Gov't? You only get one guess.....

LOL Your preaching to the preacher and you're on the money.

Like you 50+ years here. Live 1/4 mile from where my parents are buried.....said I would NEVER move.....EVER!

You got a spare bedroom? Love UT and NH. NH is more of the way I thinking but UT is second on the list.

CA was a nice place to live.

Michigan bases the renewals on the original cost of the vehicle for the first 25 years. Mine is $410 for the MH and $117 for my Saturn Vue. After 25 years they are considered antiques.

Tag and registration on my f250 is just over $100/year and is because of my weighted tag. . Just paid the taxes which is separate and based on value. It changes from county to county here. I paid $132 for the taxes. Pretty cheap I think. Next county over and I will be paying double that amount.

In Delaware, it's $40 plus $6.40 per thousand pounds above 5000. So for our Winnie Access, it's roughly $110 per year. Regular cars and pickups are a flat $40.

In North Carolina, we pay $20-30 a year to the state DMV for tags. Property taxes are paid to the county. My wife bought a 2008 Hyundai with a $12,000 +/- value last year...she isn't happy with the $300 tax bill! "My" 20 year old van...$22.00!!!

You pay property taxes on vehicles in NC? I'm glad NY hasn't picked up on that one yet!
