Time to restring day/night window shades

We are unable to find our old diagram drawings showing exactly how to restring our day/night rv blinds. Seems I once ordered a kit - from (I can not recall where) which also came with a plan drawing explaining where to string the cords and where they cris-cross, etc. Please let me know if you can help me track down that address. That grommet that causes string to fray can be replaced (in our TimberRidge anyway) with a plastic sewing machine bobbin.

I restrung a day/night blind yesterday. I was going to replace the whole thing, but tried the $20 kit and with a little youtube help it was pretty easy. Saved some cash!

Absolutely research whatever you buy. I just did a search "MCD shades issues". Not much to see.

EDD505 has the link you need. They sell the string in various lengths at very good prices.

Don't even. That's what I did and several of my MCDs, which are wildly expensive, have failed. I have to use a clamp to keep one of my MCDs from rolling up.

Wished I had kept my original shades.

My experience is 5 years of full time use. ZERO issues. Maybe you should contact MCD.

Been there done that.

Suggest others search this forum and others for dissatisfied MCD owners.

There are utube vids and web sites that describe the restringing. This is the one I used: https://winnebagoind.com/resources/service/pdfs/2006-09%20Restringing%20Day%20Night%20Blinds.pdf

A restring kit also has instructions, but if you can locate the the correct weight fishing line or buy just the line, its much cheaper.

Some tips: using thin CA ( Krazy) glue, Glue the grommets in place. As someone else mentioned, the reason the string breaks is because the grommet is out of place and the string is rubbing on bare metal. Second, when threading the string, harden the first couple inches with the CA glue. Makes the string stiff and easy to thread, cut off when finished.

When my first one broke on a trip in 2006 I just retied the broken string and all is still well. When my second one broke several years later I realized that there is a grommet thatโ€™s the string slides through that sometimes shifts out of place and causes the string to fray. I restrung that one after I fixed the grommet using waxed nylon cord and it slides up and down much easier. I just used the one on the left side as reference.

Yes, they cross over. Left ones go down and exit right...
The tension on the string keeps it from moving. You tie it at the bottom of the window frame to that post and that tension is key to it all working of course

Mini blinds are terrible for a camper. Worst thing I ever did was install mini blinds. I had to sell the camper it was so bad...
