Tire Gauges

I went to the tire shop where I buy all my tires and asked them what gauge they recommended and used.

I've tried several over the years, but the best & most accurate has been a Accutire Model MS-4021B Digital Gauge - I've had one for well over 10 years & just recently ordered another one for $15 direct from the company with free shipping.It reads a range of 5 to 150 PSI in 1/2 lb increments. It works great on single wheels, but not on dual wheels due to the valve stem angles. I use a Acme Truck Digital Angled Dual Foot Tire gauge model A567 for my dually. It reads from 2 to 150 psi in .1 tenth increments.

You can get the same gauge from Amazon Prime (free shipping) for $9.99.

I'd always suggest that you check tires with two different gauges. If there is more than a 2-3% difference, you need to compare the gauges to a tire store's reading to make sure they match.

I've got three or four electronic ones and have compared the readings of them all. They're all pretty close to each other. I use whichever one I pull out of the drawer first. Works for me. I'm not going to worry about a couple psi.

Actually, I've got several gauges. I'll occasionally check them all on a tank with 50psi in it. If they're within a couple of PSI, I'm ok. But if one's way off, I'll discard that one.

My rationale is that if they're all close except one, that one's probably not the accurate one.

Of course, even that's not a guarantee.

We also like the Accutire. The slideout gauges are too inaccurate over time. Whatever you have DO NOT have more than one! Or if you have a spare DO NOT use both of them at the same time.
With one gauge you know the pressure. With two you will probably never know the pressure!

That's just silly. We're talking tire pressure here, not rocket science. A couple psi either way is not going to cause irreparable tire damage. I agree that having several gauges with a large range of readings is not a good idea, but a couple psi not a big deal.
