Toad debris protector

Never needed one in ten years.

For several years I've use a Protect-A-Tow especially in wet weather. It keeps the RV rear, the rearview camera and the toad very clean. In dry weather I generally don’t worry about it and I’ve never had any large stones hit the toad. I also have mud flaps behind the RV rear wheels though.

We have the Roadmaster Guardian & tow defender. Although we have never towed the car without it, so far many thousands of miles behind the moho without a problem. It appears to be worth having it.

Even with these devices you are still vulnerable to debris being tossed from vehicles going in the opposite direction and from other lanes.

I did not like the idea of a bra due to grit getting under the bra and causing damage.

We also have the Roadmaster Guardian....and it has worked well. However, if to do over again, or if the Guardian ever fails, I will most definitely replace it with either the Protect A Tow or the Roadmaster equivalent Defender.

I like to keep things simple. We have a DP with the large mud flap. I believe they work well if adjusted properly. On short weekend trips, I don't use any protection. On longer trips, my first choice is a car bra. Initially, it takes a few minutes to put on at home, but I leave it on throughout the trip. "LeBra" makes a bra (about $85-$120) for just about any car.

My second choice would be the plastic type protector that attaches to the top of the tow bar.

My third choice would be the Protect-A-Tow type that uses a horizontal blanket.

Back to my keep it simple....I like the bra because it goes on at the beginning of the trip and stays on unless I hit some really nasty weather. Then I pull it off, clean it quickly with a towel and replace. The plastic protectors require a place to store them or leave them hanging on the back of the coach and can interfere with bike racks if you use one.

The last type, "TO ME" are too much work. Many love them, but at the end of day they have to be disconnected from the car and stored, usually at the back of the coach. The problem is that they get filthy and you have to handle them. Plus they take some getting down on your knees to install/connect.

Just some things to think about when you make a choice.

We've used our Protect-A-Tow with two Toyota RAV4's now with over 40,000 miles in tow, and have been very please with the performance. I installed it after paying several hundred dollars to get chips from road debris fixed on our first RAV. Once installed, it only takes a minute to hook it up when traveling. When we unhook, we leave the PAT hooked to the coach and just roll it up with the support rod in the middle. We hook it to the two center attaching eyes on the coach with short bungee cords. That way, we need only unroll it and reconnect the two clips to the toad when hooking up again, and clip on the support rod.
