toad

have 2010 30 ft chateau citation. Just got Saturn vue and Mh rigged
with Ready Brake Elite tow bar/brake system and picking up tomorrow.
just a little anxious as to how hard it is to pull a toad.
Hubby will drive most times but there will be times when I will need to drive.
Any tips on correct way to tow will be appreciated.
  • I have started a checklist for MH and towbar.
also use camera, can see a lot with that.
    thanks for the tips !
  • Hookup and unhook in a flat area away from traffic. When you hurry is when you will make mistakes (like leave the hitch pins on the front bumper:S).

Be wary entering gas stations and other parking areas. You need room to pull in and pull out. Now days, if you have a tablet or smart phone, you can satellite view the area and plan ahead. Often we hitch up after fueling just for that reason.

We have a box for the towbar accessories (cables and cord). In it is also a pair of work gloves, spare hitch pins and a check list on a 3x5 card. (We also use a check list for loading the MH).

In some campgrounds, if you tow your car in, there is no extra car charge. If you drive the towd in, pay for the car.

  • We tow a toad most of the time. My DW drives it regularly and never has a problem. Just remember that you have 20 more feet of vehicle so don't cut your corners, and, leave enough room when changing lanes. A rear view camera makes it easy.
  • I have a 27' Born Free and tow an HHR with a Ready Brute Elite tow bar. Be sure and check your instillation. All will look good until you drive the Saturn by itself. As you know, each time you depress the brake pedal on the car, the cable extends forward. IF there is any obstruction, the cable will NOT fully retrace and the brakes will still be applied and quickly wear out.

Check it out. How do I know ;)

Other then that, Ready Brute Elite is great.

  • Just don't back up. Other than that, you won't even know the car is back there.
