Torque, HP, gas mileage upgrades

Choose two. The other suffers. You will never get your money out of it. If you need more truck; buy more truck.

Over the years I have tried lots of "stuff"....mufflers make noise, air intakes are about as good as factory units, and make noise, programmers on gas engines do work BUT only in the higher rpm ranges. Look at the horsepower gain charts that they post in magazine advertising...they all show gains at 4000 rps or higher. Who drives in that range? Well, maybe a gasser going up a steep hill, but otherwise, NO ONE.
I could not wait to put a Magnaflow on my new truck....sounds wonderful, no drone and not too loud...even the wife likes it.
Increase MPG....NO
Increase HP.....NO
Increase torque..NO
Sound nice and mellow....YES
So, for $171 installed, I like the sound of my truck. I did not anticipate or expect ANY increase in anything, except in the vendors bank account...

The best money spent is on gears, then custom tunes. I have a CAI and have no complaints about it!

Some programmers also move the throttle position so it seems like the vehicle has more get up and go at a lighter throttle position. Kind of a problem with servo actuated throttles as apposed to cable activated throttles that can't be faked out by the computer.

I installed a AFE CAI and flowmaster 50 muffler on my dodge ram with the Hemi and really didn't notice any gains. The sound makes it seem more powerful. However, I did do a superchip programmer and that has definitely added a lot more fun to my driving experience. I know the HP/TQ is supposedly minimal, but it's hard to argue when you hit the gas pedal and your stuck to the back of your seat. Towing my camper was also a major improvement. The programmer is what made the difference. I bought it for $130 off Craigslist and would do it again. My truck is just so much more fun to drive!

With the heavy competition between the truck makers, if doing the mods could net the power and/or mpg gains being advertised, they would be doing it in house.

As noted, any gains (IF any) would be negligible and costly.

Exhaust delete and new CAI to make the motor a lot louder; especially helpful to alert other campers to clear out of your way when you arrive at the campground.

I'm always impressed when modified trucks rumble past my house heading to the campground up the road; I think to myself, boy that's a powerful truck, or maybe I think, wow that driver is really compensating for an anatomical deficiency.
