Some suggestions.... A) Don't skimp on the towbar and installation. When you are rolling down the road at 60mph, you don't want to have to worry about it..... especially at night. And if there is an accident, the insurance company will inspect the hookup with a fine tooth comb. If there is a liability issue, you want your insurance company backing you up. Also, some states are pretty picky about how the toads are hooked up to the motorhome. Don't risk it trying to save a few dollars.
B) Try calling a few of the camping clubs in your area. Usually someone has changed motorhomes and/or toads, and have a complete system laying around and will sell it very reasonably. Also check the want ads in the newspaper and/or the camping magazines. Be careful that it has not been in a wreck and damaged somewhere. Try one of the service shops that installs towbars...... they may have one that they took off someone's toad. Try to stay with "Blue Ox" or "Roadmaster".
C) Since you have a Jeep (as I do), you will do some off-roading. When they put the base plate on the front of your Jeep, have them put a 2" hitch (2" sleeve) on the front of your Jeep (very simple matter). That way, if you ever get "hung up" you can put your portable winch on the front or the rear of your Jeep. (very handy).
Just some suggestions...... good luck!
