Towing with ford 6.2 made better

I pull a 8700lb 5th wheel with my f350 with a 6.2 and was looking for a performance tuner and the all seemed that you had to use 89 octane or higher...after looking for awhile,i finally found a tuner that was for 87 octane...i checked all the review's and they were all positive and decided to order the "5 star tuner"...and i'm glad i did my truck tows 100% better ,i'm so impressed i'd like to shout it out to all the RV people out there....what a change in my truck...i don't belive the towing power i'm getting now..it shifts much better and it also raised my mpg concederbly....i just can't say enough about this product...i've bought tuners before for my other truck but none compares to this one....best money i've ever spent.....
  • This may be an interesting thread. I am towing a 11.5K fifth wheel with the 6.2 and no tunes.
  • Glad you found a solution. I would have just recommended using Tow/haul mode and limiting your top gear to 4th or 5th gear depending on conditions for probably the same improvements.
  • A lot of those gas eng. tuners change the trim of the throttle. So when your at 1/4 throttle the tuner changes it to 1/2. The truck feels like it has more power but over all it doesn't.
Not saying this is all the tuner does but it is almost certainly part of the package. It can also change the FE readout for the better.
It seems like the only time FE is bragged up is by a seller as customers don't usually see any significant gains.

  • I don't know the intent of the OP and won't begin to speculate, but I will say that 5-Star is pretty well known for their tuning of the Ford V10. I have only heard good things about their tuning so I can only assume that they would do good things with the 6.2 as well!

You may want to check out their website before you cast too many stones.

Max gains look to be in the 9% range and even better in the usable rpm range.

Imagine that. A dyno chart from 5 Star that shows how much power 5 Star can make on 5 Star's tune. :R

Lets see an independent dyno shop make a pull on their tune and see what they get.

BTW my name is D Thomas. :B
