Has anyone found a trip planner that you can set for a specific number of miles or hours you want to drive in a day?
Find it very hard to figure out where my next stop will be

I'm using the Good Sam trip planner this year - but checking for the approximate next stop at https://obeattie.github.io/gmaps-radius/?lat=34.93602&lng=-97.291732&z=8&u=mi&r=250

Here's one that is sort of what you are asking for...
https://www.freemaptools.com/how-far-can-i-travel.htm
it's more as-the-crow-flies, but will give you an idea of where to look at about certain mileages. Like mentioned before, we average 50mph over the course of a day, whether we go 200 or 600 miles, no matter the speed limit (highways, mainly). ST

I like the Trailer Life campground program works great for planning out a trip. I put in a bunch of towns on the route to get a mileage figure.

FWIW, I've tried RVParky, RV Trip Wizard, Furkot, Roadtrippers and some others but still always end up coming back to Googlemaps coupled with a hard copy mapbook and my spreadsheet of the trip.

Generally speaking I detail all the places, near our route to the decided end destination, that over the years I've accumulated on a spreadsheet from research/readings/blogs/forums etc. Then I'll look at distances and depending on what it is we want to see/do decide whether it's an hour or two down the road and a one or two or more overnight stop or just a lunch stop and a couple hours or whatever. We leave quite a bit of wiggle room in our travels so if we arrive somewhere and enjoy it wanting to stay a day or two longer we can. Likewise some places we move on from faster so it all evens out at the end of the day we find.

With google maps it shows you the times and distances from your last POI to the next = simple. Also remember there's "my maps" as well in google and the option to layer.

What I've found with the various trip planners is that some don't make it easy to put in Overnight stops for recalculating, sometimes when you drag and change a stop from their predetermined route, when you add more in it messes it up, some are too restrictive on the number of stops max you can put in, and various other issues. Seems like each and every trip planner has some quirky thing or another that's not compatible for us.

Like all things nowadays, as RVers we can end up with information overload on choices for research. For us once we've decided where we are headed and what places we want to visit enroute its: Hard copy map book, googlemaps, free campsites.net, casino camper, Ultimatecampgrounds, sanidumps and gas buddy for the most part. For those needing info on particular CGs, I'd definitely check them out on RVParkreviews as well for overall feedback.

We are aware of many other resources but rarely use them unless for example looking for boondocking areas in Florida we'd look at the WMAs.

Everyone travels differently and has different levels of importance. For some the CGs/RV Resorts are of paramount importance on facilities, accessibility etc. For others it's something else that's more important such as fishing/kayaking/hiking/nature/quiet/dark skies/something else. For us we are totally off-grid independent and have no interest at this juncture in our lives of what's available at a specific resort/CG. In years to come that may change but for now .......

Happy Travels.

put in start and destination and it'll ask if you want to put in stops every few hours and how many hours.

I can't help with any specific software, although I'd be interested in knowing if any existed as well, BUT, I can add that we average about 50 mph on the road when travelling on highways 60-65 mph. The 50 mph average includes fueling stops, walk the dogs stops, and stretch your legs stops. Sometimes those are combined. We usually don't stop to eat as we have prepared meals we eat while travelling down the road.

You might be able to use the 50 mph as a guide and adjust it accordingly to the speeds and style of travel.

Delorme Street Atlas will show stops at either driving time or miles, whichever you choose. It isn't being updated so all that are out there is software that is a couple years old. I then input that route in Basecamp which has updated maps.

We like to be off the road by 4pm
I look for three places. 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, just in case.
If there's a city on the way I like to get passed it the night before so I don't have to drive into it with rush hour traffic.

I googled drawing a radius on a map. Got a tool that lets me draw a circle around where I am leaving from, and shows me what is inside a certain mile radius.
Then I look for what roads I may want to try, or sights I might want to see, or just campgrounds near that distance on my proposed trip route.
We are not retired but, yes, someday it would be nice to try the " which way should we go today " method.
We use that method now for exploring around a new area from our campsite.

We usually don't go by miles...time on the road is our consideration.

Like being at our next over-night by 4pm (cocktails at 5pm ya know) and typically leave by 9 or 10am.

Sometimes we are on the road for a couple of hours and sometimes longer...there is no rush for us anymore.

Safe travels....

The extent of our "trip planning" mostly involves what direction we are going and would like to end up at. Then, every day we get up and sometimes we decide to go right instead of left. Some days we will set out to go 200 miles and after going 10 we see something we want to stop and visit and that is our day and sometimes our week.If I hear about a great trout stream I can get to that we can dry camp next to the stream for a few days, that is what we do.
I know planning is necessary if your time is limited. However,I just love to go and make a new decision every day with the info we have and get while traveling.Sometimes our three week adventure turns into a eight or more adventure.

Find an old copy of Microsoft Streets and Trips. Believe the last one was 2012. I have been getting updates for it at times. Roads do not change that much. Some information does for campgrounds and other destinations.

If I recall correctly, the RV Trip Wizard does that. But I'm not willing to spend the $35/year to verify. ๐Ÿ˜„

Otherwise, no- I haven't found one that does it. For me, it comes down to what donn0128 suggest- figure out how many miles you'll go in an hour and how many hours you want to drive and just guess/check locations about that far away.

As a newb I have used the Good Sam planner and it is working well so far. I lay out the route first and select CG that give me a decent day and allow me to roll in in daylight. Then just call them and reserve...easy peasy
