My wife and I want to buy a class A in the USA do we need to be American citizens to register a vehicle. Can we do this from australia

You need a US address to register it too. Easiest method is to form an LLC to act as your holding company. There are pros & cons to each state but Montana makes it very easy. No need for a vehicle inspection. Form the company first then do everything in the company name. The one time formation fee is not too bad. The annual fee after that is quite small. I would be wary of involving a third party such as a dealer in anything other than the sale of the unit.
