? Tying in 3d Propane Tank

Searching didn't turn up anything.

What's the best way to tie a 3d propane tank into a 5er's "working pair" of tanks? Please be explicitly detailed.

5er has two 40# propane tanks on a dual-tank regulator, plus an easily-accessible spare 40# tank about 2' away.
I've reached the age where switching tanks isn't something I want to do any more. When refill times come along I'll drive the 5er to the gas station and let that young fellow at the pump handle the tanks.
  • I have been trying to figure this out also. I was thinking of trying to use two auto switch over regulators plumbed in series. There are trailers that come with three 20# tanks from the manufacturer so there must be a way to do it.
  • You could put a T on one side of the regulator and connect your 3d cylinder to the T, the down side of this is you will be pulling from 2 cylinders on that side of the regulator. If it was my trailer and I was to do this I would connect the 2 main cylinders to the T side of the regulator and let the 3d be the stand along cylinder. JMHO

    THIS absolutely.

But you will need the hose from BOTH tanks to be long enough to reach the "spare" to make switching out which ever one is empty easier.
  • A hose to run from the spare to the regulator coupler with the right parts attached is all you need. If this is outside your skill level you should seek professional help. Getting blown up is not a good option.
  • Can you put a longer hose on the regulator and just remove the hose from one of the tanks an put it on the third tank?
