I've been at this facility for a while and while it is a nice place with nice people, I feel they're really harming their residents' health, perhaps without realizing it. When I first arrived here I was appalled at the amount of brown sugar they dumped onto the oatmeal in the morning. It appeared to be about 1/2 cup or more. I couldn't believe the residents ate it that way.Many of them are`going to be harmed, I'm sure. Of course, I ask for sugar on the side.In the same vein, the soups are heavily laden with salt. I put in a complaint about that but they answered they couldn't do much about it. The company they purchase their soup stock from adds the excess salt. I then inquired about a salt-free diet, but they can't do that here because it's not a health care facility or hospital. Can't wait to get home and back to healthy eating! Rant over.

That's too bad. The place my dad was in had good food. They had a nutritionist on staff and sodium and sugar levels were low.

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. IT your money use it as you wish. Ask to see the nutritionist and a physician and tell them what you need. If that fails call your state health department.Do not be cowed stand up

when I had my hip replaced I was in one for about 6 hours. I got tired of being lied to and the food was unbearable. I finally called my wife to come and get me. I walked out and told them not to even try to bill me for any thing.

mr. ed - sounds like your complaints about heavy salt dosage in the soup got attention, hope things are better for you now. Enjoy your stay and do all the exercisets the PT folks have you doing.

I sure hope when I am in need of assisted living they have access to carryout food. My diet is going to consist of high fat, high carbs, lots of sugar and anything else my little, dying heart desires. The local burger joint, pizza parlor and Mexican food place are going to miss me when I finally quit circling the drain.
In all seriousness, they should have nutritious, healthy food available. But in equal seriousness, if they have only a short time left on this earth, they probably don't want all their meals to be tofu and kale. The way the food was prepared at the facility probably closely mimics what those elderly people were used to eating all their lives. It would be a disservice to suddenly make a 180 change in their menus.

Easier said than done.I'm not quite at the point where I can be self sufficient.Besides, my therapists work in this facility, and I need that therapy. Actually, I have no complaints about the facility in general and I'm pretty comfortable here, in spite of the high cost and occasional overly salted soup. BTW, tonight's soup was split pea; very good and not overly salted.:C

Oh my! If I were you I would look into hiring someone to stay with you at home and buy your own food and have them cook it for you.

IMHO those assisted living facilities that the hospitals have you go to after care from the hospital are a joke. They don't even look after the people properly.

I took a friend of mine out of one. All we had to do is prove that someone would be with her at home. That IS available to everyone and medicare and your insurance will allow it.

They then send a registered nurse and if needed therapists to your home to check up on you. My friend got way BETTER care at home with the registered nurse coming over then she did when at that Assisted Facility.

Ther are no nutritionists here. There are nurses but they have no say about the food. Their main duty is to push medications.

My mom is in an assisted living facility and she has complained about the amount of salt they put in food. It's gotten some better but in our opinion everything still tastes salty.

I hope you get home soon!
