Update old b&w companion with new rvb3500 base

Has anyone done this? With my old style companion my hitch pin center line is behind the center line of my axle. Will the new base allow me to move this forward?

The goose ball is around 4" in front of the axle as it should be. The companion as far forward as possible is behind the axle.

The newer base has two different mounting positions for the post. It allows you to position the kingpin anywhere between 1" in front of the post to 7" behind the post. You can download the RVK3500 directions here and look at the different configurations: http://www.turnoverball.com/sites/default/files/rvk3500_02_04_2014.pdf

It is probably to allow towing fifth wheel with a short bed truck. Checked my sb Dodge and pin is behind axle like you describe.
