Update on changing my tire size

Well I ordered my new Maxxis tires and discovered a problem when I got ready to put them on. Looks like I was having some tire rub on the left side, the side the tires were wearing the most on. I am pretty good at keeping a check on my wheels and tires but this wasn't noticeable until I pulled the wheels. After talking with Forest River, sending several pictures and measurements they are willing to help me out. If you can call it that. I had the axles replaced a while back at Camping World and how they didn't catch the problem I don't know. The problem is the spring hangers are not centered on the frame which is causing the axles to be shifted to the right leaving no clearance on the left. Forest River is going to fix the problem by replacing the axles with a wider set, 3/4" on both sides. So I will gain the clearance needed on the left but the right side, which was already extended from the trailer will be a little wider, not outside the fender. I guess it will be OK, at least I'll be getting a new set of axles to replace the set that was giving me the tire wear. I won't be using Camping World for the work and I will make sure this shop checks everything out to make sure it's good to go.

I agree new axles are not stepping up, it's not fixing the problem. Email after email and this is the fix I am getting from them, I am happy I'm getting this much. I sent picture after picture along with every measurement you could take showing the axles are not centered due to the hangers. They wanted to blame it on the axles and put it on the manufacturer but the measurements proved otherwise. The quick and cheapest fix was putting a wider axle to eliminate the rubbing. I guess the positive note is I will be getting new axles that will replace the defective ones that were causing my tire wear. Actually more than I expected when I contacted them. This spring when I look to buy my new trailer I will be looking in a different direction.

I would not call jury rigging a fix stepping up to the plate. The hangars need to be cut off and repositioned. You need to get an estimate from a trailer or spring shop and submit that to FR.

If you had tire wear because the axles weren't installed right, changing the axle won't help until you move the spring hangers to the right place. If you didn't know the tire was touching the frame your original tire wear must have been on the tread.

good that FR is stepping up to the plate for you.
