update to my 8-2016 post on rat damage

Thank you, everyone who responded, both here and in my neighborhood. I tried nearly every suggested method.

In brief, rats were in the engine compartment, never inside the living area or cab. Damage: chewing on wire insulation, removing fluffy firewall insulation. They ate the insulation off one wire 3 times. Of course, that was the most difficult wire for me to reach.

I moved the RV to a different spot in the storage lot, sprinkled stinky stuff (predator urine granules, rabbit repellent, etc.) under it, put a dish of fresh cat poop at the rats' favorite place, hung pads with peppermint oil on them in various places under the hood, put pet-proof bait stations at each tire. The darn rats then chewed on that wire again!

Contacted others who store their RV's in this lot; zero response. Contacted county vector control, who provided some suggestions which proved to be useless or impossible. Contacted office; no response until I cornered the owner as he parked his car. I nicely told him exactly what I needed him to have the staff do (trim all of the nearby bushes and palm trees) and he had them do it the next day!!!

The rats were obviously perching on top of the engine cover to chew on their favorite wire, so I washed it and every other surface which showed signs of rat occupation with ordinary household cleaning spray. Then I wiped each surface with peppermint oil. I went down to the storage lot every day or two for a couple of weeks and repeated the peppermint oil. Now I go there twice a week.

As of now, 3 months later, no further signs of rats, no further damage. Hooray! I shall continue my vigilance.
