I would question the OP's judgement. With how litigious people are, waiting a bit for a likely drunk, or at the minimum, very distracted father with five kids is a lot less time than waiting in trials in both civil and criminal courts.
At the extreme, hitting the fishing box can be considered malicious mischief, and driving by the kids can easily be considered reckless endangerment. If one of the kids is scratched, add to that injury to a child. There is also assault with a deadly weapon (the vehicle.) There are DAs who would be more than happy to lump all those charges on, mainly because it makes them look good (the "defending the innocent children type of rep), and that it shows that they are "tough on crime".
Then, there is the civil liability, and juries almost will always rubber stamp a culpable verdict to someone who can be said by a plaintiff attorney to have deliberately tried to run down some children, even though that never was close to the truth.
It is a very stressful situation, but reacting out of anger can cause the OP to lose everything they have tried to earn.
