Several times a year one of the local dealers {In this case La Mesa RV} takes over a huge parking lot at a local shopping center near home and stages an impromptu, four-day RV show. They have at least a hundred RV's with a nice mix of every imaginable model from DP's to TT's.
We go just to look at Class C's focusing on the smaller models similar to our 24' Nexus. Wow, was that fun. We came home with grins that could easily open branch faces. :B Nothing like seeing the prices of the new models to feel good about what we have {and love}. The entry level junk starts at around $65,000 and goes up dramatically from there.
Anything with a diesel starts in the high eighties topping out at something north of $150,000... for a 24 -25' Class C. :S Some have beds smaller than a double and many are designed so that you have to make up the bed every night. Many more can only be used with the slide deployed and then they still only sleep two unless you count converting the mini dinette, another PITA. Headroom is usually well under the 7' we enjoy throughout our coach with some barely over 6' in the bathroom and shower.
Most have tiny 2 burner cooktops with small Microwaves. Only saw a couple with a real oven. Opening drawers and cabinets revealed extensive use of plywood and particleboard. There were two standouts, Tiffin is now making a nice quality C and though the layout didn't work for us the fit and finish was exactly what you would expect from a high-end builder like Tiffin. Integra also had a very nice model but both had large and/or multiple slides and we are just not fans though it is nearly impossible to find a motorhome without them. :h
It is nice to see the economy firing on all cylinders {apparently} as sales appeared to be brisk.
The staff from La Mesa RV was nothing but helpful with no pressure even for lookiloos like us. I was happy to tell them that we had purchased our lightly used coach from them 4 years ago and had been very pleased with the experience.
I guess my grandfather, a farmer from Michigan, knew what he was talking about when he told this youngster, grandson...
"Happiness is not about having what you want. It's about wanting what you have."
What a fun day!
