waste gate question

Hi
Seems that when I open my sweage/grey cap to dump i get about a liter or two of water draining although the handles are still in closed position. To make it worse it is from the black tank!!!
is there a slow leak somewhere and maybe the seal inside needs some attention? How do I check this?
Thought about some soap in the black tank to lube seal????

Need to get this fixed as we are going on a 3 week trip to Disney and I know I can't be spillling shyte!!!!!
Thanks
  • As a stopgap, buy this, twist it on, buy this to cap it off.

Then, when dumping, pop the cap off, hook the dump hose to the added waste valve, open that, and then do your usual dumping.

This isn't a permanent solution, but it will allow you to still use your RV without issue until you can hunt down and repair the waste valve that is leaking.
  • You may have a bit of TP caught in the valve seat. Better tank flushing after dumping should take care of that. Valterra also makes a blade valve that you can attach to the end of the sewage pipe. Many of us use that so we can get all the hoses hooked up without spilling leftover water from the pipes. If you add this valve, you can still attach the pipe cap as required for travel.
  • Thanks for replies. I did see an adapter style with another gate but it looked like I had to cut the main and was not dealing with that. Will try cleaning around the valve with a wire and cloth and see if it makes a difference and if not buy the Valterra extension.
  • It's also possible the seal is shot and needs to be replaced. I had this happen on one rig
  • Do you have to drop the underbelly to get access for that fix I take it?
  • There was a "flushable" wipe caught in the black shutter on my TT. Closing the gate on it had it compacted into the grove with only one way out. I had to crawl underneath and cut it apart. NICE JOB. The only bright spot was that I could re use the black gate. Now there's no more quick with the bucket pop cap rinse spill when I go to dump.
  • Flushable wipes might be good for home plumbing, but I wouldn't dispose in my RV tank.
