It keeps ice frozen and it doesn't melt, it freezes meat and it doesn't thaw, it freezes everything you can think of except ice cream. The freezer in our refrigerator will not freeze ice cream. It is a Norcold two door. Even if you put the ice cream in frozen it thaws to a soft texture and will not freeze. I have not tested it on propane. I normally only run it on electric except when towing. We never tow more that 10 hours before connecting to electric.
Any ideas, or are we just wishing for more that the frig will give us?
Our freezer will not keep ice cream "hard" either. Even if turning it up on the highest setting - it will be firm, but not hard. Ice Cream in commercial freezers is kept around -10 , we don't try to get it colder, because then everything in the frig freezes also. Ours is a Norcold 4 door.
Put a temp gauge in the freezer for a 1/2 hour or so and check it. It should be a 0 degrees. if it is higher than that something is wrong. Somethings don't need 0 degrees to freeze hard, but ice cream does. If you don't have a separate setting for the freezer like mine hasn't, you can of course raise the setting, but then things freeze in the back of the refrig which is not good. You can also move those little metal things with the wire attached that are in the back wall of the refrig and see if that makes a difference.
John This may sound a little weird. My wife likes her ice cream hard as a rock. So what she does is: she dipps out a portion that she wants to eat in the evening into a bowl and covers it with plastic wrap and puts it in the freezer. Beleive it or not it gets much harder than the ice cream in the container. Just a thought.:h
Put the ice cream against the back wall, on the bottom on the left side. That location keeps our frozen and except for really hot days as hard as a rock.
Buy your ice cream in a box and put against the back wall. If this does not do it then lower the refer temp.
