Went to the Phoenix RV show yesterday...

LaMesa RV is doing a show at the Univ. of Phoenix stadium this weekend. Spent a couple of hours looking at many units from toy haulers to Tiffins and everything in between.

Came away with a few observations. We saw what has to be the best layout in a fiver bar none. It is an Evergreen 340RK. Go to their website goevergreenrv.com and take a look at this. It wasn't cheap at 68K, but it had to be the best thought out floor plan we've ever seen. Wife said it was more like a studio apartment than an RV. I was almost enough to make us sell the Endeavor and go the fiver route again. Build quality was average as was fit and finish.

The nicest of their DPs in our opinion was the Fleetwood 42P. Only had three slides but what a beautiful layout.

Many manufactures still haven't jumped the curve on interiors. Ugly window valences and bedspreads. Many units interiors were WHITE everything. That is just plain stupid if you are an active person or have animals. Seemed nearly all the bigger units including fivers, gassers and DPs had those useless fake fireplaces. Lots of huge televisions. Most of the bigger units have the full bath with two doors instead of the shower/sink and crapper closet setup.

Thought the fit and finish in most units was pretty marginal to downright bad in some of the lower end units. Some of the very low priced units didn't look like they would stand up more than a few trips with dogs and kids. The lower end gassers were pretty Spartan.

The only units that had sold Friday were to higher end Tiffans. Listening to folks talk was interesting. Most like us were just tire kicking enjoying looking at units.

We saw this unit at the Houston Boat &RV Show a few weeks ago. It was one of the units that I made a note of. Very nice layout, seemed like the social areas and kitchen were easier to live in, rather than having everything laid out in a 36' row.

OK, I will agree it is a very nice looking unit! However I will point out a few things that I noticed:

1. Access to the refrig appears blocked with the slides in.
2. Access to the bedroom appears blocked with the slides in.
3. Dry weight is listed at 12,321 pounds and GVWR listed at 16,100, however CCC is listed at 3000 pounds. Were did the other 779 pounds go?
4. ST235/80R16E tires on a 16100 pound rig???? Options do not list load range G tires.
5. Very short main awning!

Pluses:

1. Option for king size bed.
2. Access to bathroom with slides in.

Always look at a unit with the slides both in and out!

By the way Thunder, the MH you have currently has a very nice floor plan! One of the few that my wife likes!

You might want to think twice about the fake fireplace. Somebody talked us into getting it in our current unit. It really is nice in the fall and winter. It saves propane and keeps the temperature a lot more even in the unit. The heat does not cycle nearly as much. Now that we have one we really enjoy it and they don't cost a lot.

We just purchased an Evergreen TH Fs28http://www.goevergreenrv.com/page/266/Amped last month as a result of that same show and same dealer. Evergreen has a very different TT TH in which the inside looks exactly like a fifth wheel with the steps up and into the front of the RV along with a rounded (barrel) ceiling. This is something that I have never seen in a TH TT. before! Gotta give them big props for coming up with the best of both worlds (fifth wheel interior feel but a TT). They also had many other options that were added to this unit that their competitors did not at the same price level. Change is good as far a design goes. OTOH, this unit should not have left the factory in the condition that it did! Bad for them on that!!

We have a class A, but that Evergreen fiver is really nice. Maybe when we get ready to sit still more.
