What IS Full Body Paint?

When an RV is advertised as having "full body paint," what does that really mean? If it didn't have full body paint, then, what would it have instead? The term leads me to believe that everything you see on the body is painted on -- graphics and all. Is this the case? I have a hard time believing that would be the case because some of the more complicated graphics I have seen would take a true artist to airbrush on, like those on a 2014 Redwood, for example.

Full body paints are worth the extra cost and mean full paint no graphics..
Is the white on your MH paint also? or just the gel coat with clear coat sprayed over the whole MH?

Our 2007 looks similar to this one, except where this one is white, ours is tan. It's all paint, with the exception of the little kangaroo and the bounder name - those are decals. I guess those are too difficult to mask and spray in a booth - they'd need to be hand-painted and that is just too labor-intensive.

But what happens when you get full body paint into the brush when going around the corner at some state park. It will scratch a lot worse than good gelcoat!

Would this be true for all full body paint jobs? Or, are there some who would still use decals?

Bruce

Our 2007 bounder has full body paint, but the Bounder logos are still decals. I don't know if Fleetwood still does it that way or not; I imagine they do.

Another nice aspect of full body paint is when you run your hand over the paint it's a smooth transition from color to color. You can't feel any lines. No places for wax to get trapped as happens with decals.

A good paint job is an expensive proposition. We're very happy with ours and the way it looks. We've received so many positive comments. Just not looking forward to waxing it.

OMG, waxing is a... well it takes a long time and a lot of wax. :E

Wax on, wax off. Be sure to use something that comes off easily and is yet durable.

Whoa...that's a BIG mistake...sure hope it was completely redone and is now a true full body paint? This a an 8-10K option!!

Do you think that maybe they cut some corners somewhere to fix the mistake? What should I look for when I see it in person next month?

Bruce

If it backed it up a couple of weeks, my guess would be they took a dealer order off line (or one that was just about to go online), and started his ordered rig over with that. Can't imagine them trying to remove the graphics and then paint the one they started with...that would be my guess.

Full body paint is georgeous, heavy too. All those gallons of paint add up. I might be inclined to take it a step further if buying an up market unit & intended to take very good care of it. Since the labour going into the painting is about the same no matter the product I think I would use nothing but the best paint. I would not use automotive but a great marine epoxy paint like Awlgrip or Emron.

Used Awlgrip on a boat. 8 years of saltwater use later it still looked like just done.

Bingo !
I hear some folks representing their coach as full body paint .
Most are fiberglass with the vinyl decals applied .
That is what I had on my 36 DP .
The FBP is easier to wax and the results are better .
When you see a " full body paint " rig it stands out and appears like the extra $ 9 grand it costs extra .
Every travel trailer with painted corrugated aluminum siding is also FBP ( under the decals ) .
