I had a retail business for 22 years. If a customer had a legitimate reason for me staying late, I would happily do so. If there were customers in the store near closing I would state that I would be closing in 15 minutes....and do so. I never had an issue with people abusing that.
I would suggest that you be firm in stating the close time, and then do it.
