Just a question.... Or maybe a rant! Lol...

We are in Palm Springs and because of the heat the campground is near empty. MANY empty sites! I am in a park where you drive around and pick your own site. Not assigned. I am in a site about 4 up from the end. There are 15 sites past me. I am here for 3 weeks. For some reason people keep pulling in RIGHT next to us. The sites that are all empty are all the same but within a day of someone leaving, here comes someone else crowding in next to us with empty sites all around (both sides)! What is with that? Someone suggested it is the "wagon train" mentality. I think people are just so darn used to living on top of each other in the city. What do you think?

We in Wyoming call this city slicker phenomena.
One time on an antelope hunt in the Wyoming desert north of Rock Springs, we camped (what is called boondocking here) next to an old windmill that had fed water to an old cattle watering trough. There was nothing else in site. It was after dark about 9 P.M. and our campfire and rv lights were the only lights shining except for the stars. We were about a quarter of a mile off of a so called gravel road by the side of what we call a 2 track road going through the sagebrush. We saw 2 sets of vehicle lights coming over the hill on the gravel road, one pulling a trailer. They stopped just past where the 2 track came off the gravel road, they backed up and drove right down to within 50 feet of us and proceeded to set up camp with out saying a word to us. We were awe struck and speechless. We had seen from their lights on license plates that they were from California. Nature called me a few minutes later. So I headed out about 150 feet into the dark to stand by a sagebrush for a urinal, just as I unzipped my fly, a big "Wuff" from 2 feet behind me gave me quit a start. Yep, you guessed it, I wet myself. Their hunting dogs were out. We left early the next morning.
This is our worst case of the herd or city slicker mentality that we have experienced , but it happens all the time. Maybe these guys were scared of the dark or just scared to be alone in the big outdoors.
I don't understand it, I want to be as far from others as I can. I have stayed in rv parks and can understand that.
I was born and raised in a small town of about 1000 people here in WY. My parents bought a 160 acre farm in an even smaller farming town of about 300 about 15 miles away, when I was 6 years old. We moved to the home in the middle of a 160 acres when I was 12 years old. I have to say that I felt like I had been let out of prison, having lived in the big town.
I am not a recluse as I did spend my career in sales.

That's true too.. since many are tired, and often just plain lazy.

Along with the movie theater urinal scenario... movie theater seating.

You go to the theater during the least popular viewing time; the place has a thousand empty seats; you and maybe 6 other people are dispersed around the theater; someone comes in and sits directly in front of you, or, right next to you. What's up with that?
Move the freak OVER! lol

I've gotten up and bought an overflowing cup of soda and bumped my way back to my seat: the guy in front moved.:W

You would have to find a place in your rv for the tuba! We need something that is easier to store.

We stayed in a camp ground that didn't have any marked sites you just parked where ever you wanted. We went to bed one night and when we went outside the next morning some people had setup a tent under our awning. People there drive around all night long so I didnt think anything about when I heard a car.

thrle".

But If I used the urinal next to you instead of one further down the line, would you take the time to rant about it?

The real solution would be, if you absolutely don't want someone right next to you, would be to pay for three sites and set some stuff in the other sites(that you paid for) so you have your privacy.

_---------------------

But I think you missed the whole point of this entire thread! Never said I absolutely don't want anyone next to me. Just trying to figure out why someone would go next to you when there are sooo many other sites that are equally as good or bad that are not next to anyone. I get it, you go right next to people. Please explain why.

Thanks,
Brian

Dude, you're making this up. I've been camping for more than 40 years and have never heard of such a thing.

Ok... here's the scenario: You're walking into a mens room at the theater and see a wall of urinals with one of them occupied. Do you A.) Walk up to the one next to the occupied or B.) Pick one AT LEAST one space further away? I don't know about you but most of us have been employing the "at least one space away" rule long before we had RVs.

All meant in fun, of course... but that doesn't detract from the existence of the "rule".

I did... Not near the corner... Just in the middle of a row all by myself. Nothing special about the site at all.
I talked to the guy today. Without asking him directly I asked him why he thought people on the main entrance road all piled together when there is so much room. He thought it could be they just pull in the first site they see.
He probably saw my rig, thought it looked good where it was and backed in without thinking twice.
Or it could have been the free beer sign. ๐Ÿ˜‰

You would have to find a place in your rv for the tuba! We need something that is easier to store. How about a big sign, "Beware of pit bull."

Or a sign: "Please forgive the howling dog. We're trying to break him of it, really we are!" Of course, this is better if you don't really have a dog of any kind... so that someone can't complain they thought they heard howling. LOL

If there is a lake or mountain view site open I'll take it over being by a bathroom or dumpster. If you don't want a neighbor don't park in a prime area. If it's a non-prime site I will be as far away as possible.
