I paid extra to get my 30k lb rated gooseneck and dual receiver on my truck. I wanted to pay once for them and not have to swap them out later. I don't have plans to double tow, but I do have my eye on some pretty heavy stackers.

Bedlam you have a good point! For example my RV weighs 23,000#, my B&W Puck Hitch is "Rated" for 25k so the reality is I am at my hitch limits when I DoubleTow my MC trailer and two Cruisers. My RV hitch at the back is rated for 3k.

I wonder about the hitch assemblies actually being strong enough. If you have a ball and stinger rated at 12,500 lbs with your first trailer weighing 10,000 lbs and your second trailer weighing 3000 lbs you are already over. There are stronger options but there are also weaker ones...

Every double tractor trailer on the road (and triples) are on pintle hooks; I fail to see why a ball hitch isn't just as good.

The problem here is loading, not the hitching mechanism. If a state wants to ban such a setup, that's fine, but if a ball hitch trailer setup is not overloaded, I fail to see why it's a problem.

Maybe terminology but the "first trailer" is on a 5th wheel and all behind are pintle??????

A vehicle towing TWO ball type trailers?

Yes. And 3 flat towed Jeeps ..

Personally never seen anything like that in CA.

The MH and jeeps we’re heading to a Big off road event west of Salton City. The combination was rolling along fine on the S22. Really good looking Jeeps they were.

They tow like a wagon not a teeter totter so are happy.

Absolutely, hang out at glamis enough and you'll see bumper pull RVs with a dune buggy bumper pulled behind that.

I legally double tow in CA my 5er and MC trailer behind that's because they recognize SD since it's legal there to double tow.

I should have included if your a resident and there are some states no one is allowed to double tow

Legally in Alberta the lead trailer must be a fifth wheel and be longer than the rear trailer. I think the law is good but I still tow a short ball type trailer in front of a long clevis hitch trailer. The combination tows fine and is safe but I am apt to get pulled over and scolded some day.

How many know how to do it right?

Yeah we all know that a smart responsible adult would do their homework, but not everyone (I'd dare say most) are not as smart and/or responsible as they should be.

I suspect this is the reason many states ban this kind of setup. Too easy to do it wrong.

I guess I am the only one to notice when following a MH with car trailer or a TT behind any truck that goes left and right at every wiggle from the tow vehicle. Add another trailer and it just gets worse .
