Wind and/or constant rain have been the only things that have made me leave a day early from my planned camping trip.. It's been one time for each instance in the 12 years of my planned camping trips..
Living in the Texas Panhandle we deal with rain all the time. Our Cameo has the Big Foot levelers which really cuts down on movement. It's just something you get use too. I don't like to pull in the wind, but at times can't help it. I do know there could be a time when I wouldn't.
Just returned from a quick trip up to Globe and on down to Apache junction. Spring in the high Sonoran desert is the windiest time of year and this trip was no exception. Had winds of 25 to 35 mph all the way up and most of the way home (when it gets above 35 I just stay put). It knocked my milage back from 10 to 8.5 but other than that no issues although a couple of gusts funneling through the passes did induce a little pucker factor. :S
hey man just hold on a while longer, we were there in jan.it got cold a time or two for us too. but the folks that run the place held some events that broke up the cold and wa-la they are nice folks too.wow now we are in myrtle beach, and one day the wind waz too much ALL DAY LONG, we went across the fery to a beach that was nice, now its all happy-camping
We were in a camp near Garden City, Kansas when a tornado was heading our way. High winds, rain, hale, lightning, and a lot of shaking. No where to go. Had the weather radio on all the time. It missed the area we were in and glad of it!
Popups in wind can be quite an adventure! One year we camped at a private CG just outside Great Sand Dunes NP. We had no choice which way to face, and the winds, gusting probably to 45 or so, aimed right at the end of the PUP. I was sure the metal braces holding up the bed-end tent would break - one did bend - so we put the camper down and begged & pleaded enough that they allowed us to stay in one of their "motel" rooms instead (fortunately they had one available).
