What do folks use to protect the windshield of a car that is being towed on a flat bed trailer behind a B+? This will be our first time doing this and would not want the windshield cracked if one go...

One, I think you're inventing a problem where one doesn't exist.
Two, if you put something on your windshield (like a blanket for instance) and it flies off and covers the windshield of the guy behind you, or gets caught up under his car (and lets hope its not a motorcycle), or whatever, you could be responsible for some serious injuries.
