Workamping in Maryland

For those who are non residents of, but have worked in MD, how bad of a hit did you take with MD income taxes? I have lived there in the past but not since '68 and we are thinking about workamping in MD for the summer.
  • MD income tax is/was 7.5%, 5 to state 2.5 to county. it does / did vary depending on county.
    bumpy
  • Just like any other income. depending on your situation, the total tax hit could be zero or 50% of the amount earned. This will largely be driven by the IRS, not MD.
  • Will you even earn enough to owe any tax? You would probably want to file to get a refund of anything withheld from your pay. I would go to the MD tax site and look at what they tax as income. In our case in other states, nothing else we had was taxed by the other state like pensions, social security, bank interest, interest on retirement accounts etc. so the earning from in that state were not high enough to create a tax liability.
