Worked on the FW this weekend

My FW has been parked for almost 2 years. I haven't had the time to travel and the last trip I blew a head gasket on the truck. This weekend I started working on it. I ops checked the fridge, AC, heater, water heater, and plumbing and everything seems to be working.

The slides wouldn't retract, so I replaced the solenoid. It should have taken about 15 minutes, but the solenoid that I bought on line didn't have the mounting bracket even though the company said it did. I had to fabricate one and it took a trip to the hardware store. The solenoid probably failed because my converter wasn't working and the battery voltage was low. It caused arcing across the contacts and burned it up.

I also rodent proofed the plumbing. Last year the rodents got in and made a mess. Since then I've put poison down in the cabinets where they got in and packed steel wool around the openings for the pipes. I added to ultrasonic pest repellants, one at each end of the RV. They work pretty well as long as there's power to the RV.

I still need to replace the awning and a roof vent that dry-rotted. I also need to retape the vapor barrier underneath. The foster puppies discovered a loose piece of tape hanging down and tore the tape all the way off. After that I just need a set of tires.
  • As long as it's in good shape and everything is working, it'll never be too old.
  • I agree. I just need time and money. I usually have one or the other, but seldom have both. I bought the RV 10 years ago with the intention of going to Alaska. I got a divorce a few years ago and since then I've been trying to get out of debt so I can retire. I'm worried that the RV will be too old by the time I get around to using it.
  • You'll definitely deserve a trip out after all the work.
