camping in south michigan

We are new to RVing, and want to start going to areas within a few hours of our home in Sarnia, Ontario. We are trying to find a pet (we have a Golden Retriever) friendly park on a small lake where he can swim. There are so many beautiful resort areas around, and I'm getting boggled looking them up on the internet. So, I decided to join an RV forum and ask for first hand information. Specifically we would like to be in the area north of Port Huron, within a couple of hours. ANybody?

    Tawas Point State Park is nice, pet friendly and has a dog beach on the bay side. Its about 3 hours north of Port Huron around the thumb on the north side of Saginaw Bay.

    We recently stayed at the KOA in Port Huron on the July 4th weekend. We had a great time while there. Their "supersites" were pretty impressive. It isn't a quiet park, but there is so much to do there you don't really mind. Very dog friendly as well.
