Hot humid camping

We are trying to decide if we are going to go camping this weekend. I am the type of person that nothing gets in the way of my camping. However the forecast for this weekend is hot humid with the high of 98 degrees. The pool at the campground we are going to is in the sun so I don't see that has refreshing. A campfire isn't gonna be fun to sit around in the heat. Even cooking sounds like a chore in the heat. The only place for our family of 5 to get relief would be our air conditioned camper but we are going with another family. That wouldn't make for a good time.

So I come here to get suggestions on how to have fun camping in the humid heat. Can we have a good time? What are your suggestions or do you think we should just stay home?

well it was humid enough that the AC running from 6 pm to 8 am produced almost a gallon of water that dripped from the roof into a bucket (never mind what evaporated) still was a good time

We lived in NE all our lives and it is hot and humid all summer. Moved to CO last June and do not miss humidity at all. We just spent last 3 days in mts behind Pikes Peak and was 70s during the day and 45 at nite.

When I plan our trips (we're only able to go in warmer months) I don't care what the temp is. We don't get out enough to let it bother us and after all, life is too short to let the weather dictate our lifestyle. If we only had more time....

We are T-minus 5 weeks from the end of camping season. We won't waste one minute of it.

5 weeks only? More like 2 months for us. That's what the heater and campfire is for! :B

All local parks are closed up tight last weekend in September. It tends to freeze shortly after. Then we have a two week window to get our trailer into storage. Not much choice here.

Why let it end there. Wisconsin's not too far away. State parks are open year round, and many private parks are open until late October.

Awesome suggestion, but no can do. We have a new 5th and no truck. Have to borrow a truck and get it into storage in a small, small window of time. Boo!

Yeah, it looks like this weekend is going to be brutal. That's OK, we'll still have fun. It will just mean more time inside the rig.

Happy camping and safe travels to all!

Where are you headed? Most state parks that have shade trees feel much cooler than the actual temp. Plus, as someone else stated.... kids don't even notice the heat when they are all together and playing.

This is why I love living in Alabama, year round camping. Moved south from New York twenty years ago and you couldn't pay me to move back.

Get outside early and you will become acclimated to the temps and humidity. Also, buy some 10x10 canopy and enjoy. Here in Alabama, well not this year, it is very hot and humid from May to late September and you just learn to deal with. Weather will not stop us from camping.

So we took a family vote at dinner tonight and decided to go camping this weekend. We are gonna bring some movies for the kids, crafts and games to do inside during the heat of the day. I'm sure it's gonna be fun as it always is. We're gonna bring extra fans and I'm already starting to put ice in ziplock bags so we have extra ice. If you have any other suggestions for staying cool, please let me know.

Thanks to all that responded.
