"What's a boy to do in Savannah, Georgia?"

Thank you all for your suggestions. The time went by so fast we hardly had time to do the basics. Our biggest discovery was Lotts Island Army Airfield Campground at Hunter Army base. We stayed there; the location was great; we will definitely go back to explore Savannah and the surrounding area.

There is also a nature exhibit on the waterfront at Tybee, right now I forget the name of it even though I drive by it every other week.

Visit Fort Pulaski, Fort Jackson and Fort McCallister. Tour the historic district, have lunch down on the waterfront. Visit some of the many city squares that are preserved.

How times change. I grew up poor in a big farm family. I only said "I'm bored!" one time. My mother sent me out to hoe out two trees in the fruit orchard; took about 3 hours. If we boys fought, there were plenty of chores to punish us with. We finally learned, if you have some time off, keep your mouth shut and entertain yourself. When we turned 18, we were eager to leave home and get a 40 hour/week job instead of the 60 to 70 hours we had on the farm.

I know times have changed, but I fear for our future with such coddled kids now days.

wannavolunteer is absolutely right. While I would never say Savannah is a great visit for children, think there is enough to keep him occupied. Definitely take him on a ghost tour - just check on internet for one that is 'family friendly'. Bonaventure Cemetery might be interesting as well. The Forts are great for a few hours of interesting history - and outdoors so he will not feel cramped for space. If you're only there for 3 days for a family wedding, don't think you'll have a lot of extra time to travel very far.

If I don't have my cities confused, I think there is an Air Force museum there and also a Bass Pro Shop.

take one of the carriage ghost tours or the hearse ghost tour (yes really, a hearse.. or a modified station wagon at very least)...

take the riverboat and ride up and down the river..or a dolphin tour.. or even rent segways for a tour of historic district

go to Tybee Island, climb the lighthouse and walk the beach looking for sharks teeth and shells.

whatever you do, go online and get coupons for whatever you decide to do. almost all the places offer and accept coupons.
