cat boarding

My wife and I will be spending three months in Melbourne, Florida, again this year, starting in January. Last year we were there for three months also and tried to find a cat boarding facility. Only one we found was a vet clinic and they wanted $50. per day, per cat, of which we have two! Seems like a very outrageous price! We are wondering if anyone knows of a cat boarding facility in that area.

Thanks,

  • Are you looking to board them the entire time or just for certain times during the three months?

I can't help for specifics in that area, but my family did cat boarding. New clients usually came by reference from one of the local dog boarding kennels. You might call some of them and ask if they know of anyone.

If you can, you might also talk to the kennels and/or vets to see if any of their staff does petsitting at your home (not sure if that will work in this situation).
  • Why do you need a boarder in Melbourne if you’re there in your MH?
  • Not answering your question, but we found it much better to pay a sitter clean and feed every day at home. Of course at the time we had 7 cats.
  • Our Cats travel with us all the time, typically 7 to 9 months. The RV is as much or more of a home as the S&Bs.
  • I probably should have been more specific. The problem is not taking the cats with us, we do, but while in Florida for three months and close to Port Canaveral, we would like to take a cruise and there we could not take the two cats with us!

Last year we looked for cat boarding facility but only found several people who would come to the trailer and take care of the cats. Frankly, I am uncomfortable leaving my keys with a stranger and would they be able to administer oral medication every other day to one of the cats. A boarding facility would be a much better solution for us.
