- 2oldmanExplorer IINot sure how the FDA could do that.
- rockhillmanorExplorerTo start with when a dog food manufacturer "voluntarily" recalls these treats because dogs are dieing to 'avoid' an investigation by the FDA.........
the FDA needs to change their procedures to go in and start a report on it and investigate on the 'voluntary recall' level. Not sit on the sidelines until thousands die like the melamine disaster.
That's the giant hole. Look how many "voluntary" recalls of these jerky treats since 2007 and the illness and deaths reported. All 'voluntary recalls' which keeps the FDA at bay.
You'd THINK the FDA would have a clue something BAD is in these treats.
Bottom line any pet owner feeding anything to their dogs made in China should be rethinking the safety of their pet.
If pet owners would just STOP buying these damn treats made in China is another answer to the problem.
The other thing that comes to mind for me when FDA says they can't find anything in the tested jerky products is............wait for it.......
A common thread with all these dogs fed jerky treats is they are all fed 'dog food' every day and the same days they are fed jerky treats. Perhaps different brands but none the less dog food.
IMHO, JMHO when a dog dies and they say they fed jerky treats and FDA can't find anything in the jerky treats? FDA should automatically test each one of those deceased dogs dog food.

I also complained about the writing on the packaging being so tiny were it stated US ingredients, assembled in China...I could hardly read it ! With so many animals dieing from renal disease after eating some of these treats, I feel I can never be too overly careful when purchasing products .

Why approx 600 dogs have died and around 3,000 have become ill after
eating jerky treats from China made of chicken, duck, sweet potato.???? :S:S

Is there supposed to be a link or something in the O.P.? - darsbenExplorer IImore detailed story about problemThey are asking for help because testing of the treats has been fruitless. The damn Chinese treats are made by/for the major manufacturers such as Purina, Milos kitchen and others.
Do not help the FDA track down the reason if that is what you want to do. But please do some reading before placing blame. Yes it is the FDA's job to find out the cause. Testing has been negative so as with all illness outbreaks they are turning to the public.

I have a right as everyone else on this forum to voice our opinions. Histrionics it's NOT.
Jerky treats are fed on the same day dog food is fed. No rocket science needed here. If cause of death is NOT found in the jerky treat it's in the dog food.
Just like the CDC does when they have an outbreak they link the common threads of what/where the people ate.
FDA should have taken a sample of the dog food also because it was a common thread in all the dogs.
Would be interesting to 'match' the deaths/illness of these dogs with the time line 'with the numerous voluntary recalls' of all the dog foods.
