I need to switch wet and dry dog foods for my senior dogs. Both wet and dry need to be low in fat. These dogs are small breed so need to have a dry food with small kernels and both wet and dry have flavor. I have been using Nature's Variety Prairie Chicken and Brown Rice as the wet and Blue Buffalo chicken and Brown Rice Senior for dry. Any advice?? Thanks in advice

What about checking to see if the current brands you use offer a "senior" formula, especially if they like what they currently eat? Blue Buffalo Basics has a number of "senior" varieties.

I have but nothing is showing "lite."

Problem is many say 6% min - so what does that mean?? I thought 6% but now realize more than that. The dog in question has been in the pet hospital for 3 days and is back home. I have emailed my vet for her recommendations but haven't heard back yet. I want to do the right thing for my pets. I now realized labels mean nothing.

OK, on that note I have to agree with Pawz4me. It may take some time but either walk up and down the aisles of your pet food supplier and read the labels or do it on line. I'd be leery of what the vet recommends only in that they are probably going to recommend a food they sell at a premium price.

Fromm Family pet foods make excellent pet foods. They have NEVER had a recall and test every batch BEFORE they ship it. Eukanuba and Science Diet are junk.

Fromm has reduced activity and senior foods..

Why was this dog in the hospital? Why is a low fat diet recommended (this isn't a typical recommendation just because of age)?

These are important historical issues to be considered before giving recommendations.
