Off leash dog parks

We will be traveling this summer with a young puppy who needs LOTS of exercise. Although we walk and jog with him, we find that letting him run in an off leash dog park with other dogs is just what he needs. Does anyone know of any online listings or books that list off leash fenced dog parks and/or RV parks with fenced dog runs?
  • Hi,

    There are several sites.
    Try Dogpark.com for starters.
Or just Google "Dog Parks and your city (i.e.; dog parks Houston TX)
  • Although we do not typically let ours run free with other dogs, we have stayed at RV parks that did have fenced dog runs. But I do not know of any list for RV parks with them. You would probably just have to check each park's web site.
  • I keep mine on a leash as I prefer others to do with their "Little Angel". I always seem to find a secluded part of the park, trail or open field that I can take her to run. I am typically hesitant to play with dogs that we don't know.
  • Try www.dogfriendly.com. They have listings for everything dog. I looked up the parks in my local area. The listing was complete and up to date.

This site we found to be the most up to date available, hasn't failed us yet.

  • Some of the KOA's have "Kamp K9", a fenced-in area for dogs.
PS: If you are going to San Diego, Ca, I can recommend some great (unleashed) dog beaches.

I agree - KOAs seem to be more dog-friendly? When we stayed at the SE Orlando KOA, their Kamp K-9 was 7500 sq ft of fenced luxury! But most people were using it "privately" - for example, one nice lady with a retired greyhound admitted that my little Ben would not fare well with her dog...LOL!! She asked for 5 minutes of run time; then left. And if I was using it and someone would show up with their dog, I'd leave (unless they specifically asked for a "play date" - in which case Jimmy and Ben got to play, but Jack got leashed outside the fence due to his dog-aggression issues.)

But don't discount walking on a leash - IMO, "walking" is an inefficient gait for most active dogs, so burns off a lot of energy??
  • There is a very nice one in Danville MO just west of St Louis. Called Lazy days. Has a big roomy fenced area for the dogs. A very clean and friendly campground. By the way, if it is a pup make sure all shots are done and current.

  • In the Durango area Alpen Rose RV Park. Awesome 2 acre dog run.
