I recently enjoyed a beach camping trip. I have noticed that pet owners are often picking up and bagging poop but then leave the bags beside of paths in the campground for the campground trash collectors to pick up. I do not understand why anyone would do this. Doing things such as this will only cause trouble. It could place restrictions on pets, cause new additional "pet" fees to be added or worse ban dogs all together. I saw this last year as well but I think it is happening now more than ever. I have seen this in different campgrounds.Please remember that even in a campground with trash pickup at your campsite it is YOUR responsibility to dispose of a poop bag properly. Picking up poop is only the first step. It is easy to drop a bag into a trash or dog waste receptacle! The campground I was staying provided doggie bags AND waste receptacles and people were still leaving the little bags of poop on the ground. We love bringing our dog with us but I fear that the actions of a few may ruin it for many.

You will find dozens of threads on this and other forums addressing this issue. There are always going to be people that have no consideration for their surroundings and other people. It is sad but true.

What do you mean? Don't you know dog poop isn't really poop?

We do put the bags together in our site, but only long enough so we make a single garbage run every evening. The state park where we usually camp has dumpsters only at the entrance to the park. We just make it a habit to take the dog for a walk down there each night and dispose of all garbage at once.

Its the beach,,just a few kicks of sand and it goes away!! heck if you got crafty you could swipe some sand away and kick the poo into the hole,, then cover,,,All Gone!!

If I'm taking the dogs on a hike and they poop on the way out, I will bag it, tie off the bag, and set it on the side of the trail. On the way back to camp, I will pick up the bag(s) and dump it in the dumpster. I just don't see a reason to carry the poop all the way out only to carry it all the way back so I can put it in the dumpster.

I suspect that MOST people who take the time to actually pick up and bag their dog's poop are doing this. The ones who pick up and bag the poop but leave it for someone else to dump are in a very small minority.

I pick it up, bag it and leave it at the curb for pick up on the way back by so we don't have to walk our entire walk with poop in hand. I will add that this is with complete knowledge and suggestion of the other homeowner. They even throw it away at times before we get back around.

Glad I have not seen this yet, as long as you bagged it why not put it in the trash? People can be so strange.

That's a new one! Clearly, some folks are reading the campground's directive to "put trash at the curb" to include blue bags??

I always add mine to the trash bag, so there's only one larger bag to be picked up. Maybe the campground needs to be more specific?

I wish campgrounds would start charging fees for not picking it up. We own a lot in a private campground, as do friends of ours. Our friends were visiting our site and their dog went across the street and did her business in the neighbor's tall grass. Then our friend didn't pick it up. When I mentioned it to him, he said the grass was tall enough that it was fine. I explained to him that someone owns that lot and he needs to pick it up. He finally did but I was shocked that he really thought leaving it there was okay. Sheesh!

My dogs poop doesn't smell...................

Our son never wanted to pick up after our dogs :) he has a dog now He has learned how to do it :) :)

It is sad when a dog bag station and trash can are just 30 feet from a big pile.......... One campground we go to has instituted a $100 fee if caught not picking it up........ goes to animal charities..... :)
