After many years of dogs, and talking to them I find myself talking to myself and inanimate objects more all the time. Am I going nuts, or do other people do it to?

You're okay as long as you don't lose and arugment with yourself.
I will occasionally tell inanimate object to "stay" if they look like they are going to move when I don't want them to.
