50 Amp plug

A couple times this summer I've camped at a site where there was a very tight fit for a 50 amp plug. Even one of the 50/50 extension cords had trouble. I saw another camper with a 50/50 extension plug that didn't bend at a 90 degree angle. Just plugged into the outlet and came straight out a couple inches making it easier to plug in his RV cord. I've searched on line for a supplier but can't find a similar plug. Unfortunately the man that had it left the site before I could find out where he bought it. Anybody seen a plug like I described. Thanks.

I'll take a tight fit any day over an upside down outlet! :B

That guy might have had a dog bone adapter similar to these. And you didn't see he was plugged into a 30 with his 50. The dog bones are pliable so they are easier to get in tight places, they come in all combinations you need. And they do come out of the middle like you described. I use these at sporting events a lot cause there are so many plugged into one shore station.

And I've seen them come out the middle on splitter shore station cords. 50 amp to (2) 30 amps.

I have never seen one like that but do have a suggestion for you. In fact two of them, one for now one later

A company called Coil-%-Wrap (As best I recall) makes something called a plug dog.. this is a nylon (I think) webbing thing that you put one end of it over your 50 amp plug, then you "Wrap" it around the plug head and put the other end over the pins.. Now you plug in, and when it comes time to unplug grab the handle thus formed and pull.. Works great.

Recommendation two.... When you eventually need to replace said plug.. Check out the Camco Power pull.. Now I've heard complaints about that one but the one I have is a competitor's same design,, Works great.(Wish I could recall the name of the competitor)
  • Isn't it wonderful how the pedestal designers don't realize there's a big cable hanging there?

Having a straight adapter for 50A or even 30A plugs would be very handy on occasion. Unfortunately I have never found one of these as by design they all have right angle cables.... due to the weight of the heavy cable pulling down..... A straight adapter plug would be subjected to coming loose from the socket. You can find straight plugs and sockets in large hardware stores, e.g. Lowes, etc.... I see the only solution is to build one yourself.
