Another Slide out Question

I know there have been many questions on Slide outs not working but I could not find one that addressed my issue. I am a full timer so slide out stays out for long periods of time. I have to move it and the slide out will not move. I press the power button and the lights will dim in RV but the slide will not move. I tried using the hand crank but it will not move it either. I am a retired female and am not sure what or where to start looking to troubleshoot this issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Pricey motor! How about rebuilding your motor? With a stalled motor releasing the power should be tolerable to the motor. Excessive power and heat are often the motors downfall.

But if the bar or something is jammed it will need to be identified and fixed.

How about removing the bar, getting help to push the slide in then blocking it closed?

plus if the rod or gears are jammed that could have caused the existing motor to burn up. Dont want to do that again

new motor is $1200.00 I cannot afford one. I just need to be able to hand crank it in...

have not been able to get a manual. its an older "97 jayco

I have to move it in 1 week and have to figure out some how to get the slide in to transport it 😞

Sounds like "gear bar" is a rack and pinion type setup. If there is no longer anything holding the rotating bar then it could require more force to turn or the slide is somehow jammed. But don't apply to much force. Try working it back and forth to see if there is any signs of movement.

Can you get manuals etc on your setup?

ok back with this post. Pulled motor.. its bad. Still wont hand crank in.. The motor is removed so there wouldn't be a issue with the brake holding it. Went under RV and tied rotating the bar (that motor was attached to)that runs on the gear bars (not sure what to call the various parts, bear with me.) It still wont move. What is my next thing to check ?

I've posted this before but everyone should know how to manually operated the slides before they buy the rig.

I was confident I knew the procedure on the current rig. Then the hydraulic pump leaked and ruined the motor. Lipper had 3 design problems that prevented the manual procedure from working and when pointed out they sent me a upgraded replacement pump.

I'm not sure that it's possible/practical to bring in my heavy slides by disconnecting the hydraulics. And if so what would keep the slides in with no hydraulic pressure? I suppose one could build a stout frame setup inside the rig to block the slide closed.

Yes, the purpose of the brake is to keep the slide from moving when it shouldn't. The brake is on the motor which spins rapidly when used. So a small brake has a large stopping ability.

Our Power Gear has an electric brake which is on with no power. Apply power and the brake is released for normal operation. Release the power button the slide stops and the brake is applied.

For manual operation flip a lever on the motor to release the brake and then the slide can be moved with a crank.

Yours could be similar.

Some slide outs have a brake and some don't. Would check the manual that came with the RV and see what they have to say about manual operation. The last time that I had slide problems, it was the motor had gone bad. How long has the slide been in the extended position? If you can see the mechanism under the slide, the hydraulic system will have a cylinder with a rod coming out of the middle of one end attached to the slide out. An electric one will have either a screw type device or a section with gear teeth on it that a gear turned by the motor pulls the slide in or out. Let us know what you find out.

I would think the batt should be charged if you are plugged in. However a voltage check should show right at 13.2 on maintenance.

If you are gonna haul the bat in, it needs to be "load tested"

Most Auto parts stores will do it for grins, but sometimes they may grin when they tel you you need a new batt. But i have had them tested in the past and the store would tell me it is OK.

BTW, it could still have a brake. When all is working well the brake gets released when you push the switch.
