Applying baby powder to slide seals

So I have read many use baby powder on the slide seals and am looking for suggestions on the best way to apply with little mess. Do you first put the powder on a towel and wipe down the seals? Do you do both inside and outside of the trailer?
  • I use some sort of rubber lube for auto door seals.
    Seems to work well.
Do my truck's doors at the same time.
Just wash the seals good to get all the road grime off first.
  • I wonder what the manufacturer of the slide seals says? Like -grip.com/Tape_Seals-1.html
  • I just traded in a 12 year old 5th wheel and never touched the slide seals with anything and I never had a problem. Mine never stick.
  • I recently read that keeping the slide sides clean and waxed also works by providing a slick surface for the slide seals to glide over.
  • I spray the seals with Aerospace 303 a few days before I dust with baby powder. Then I use the sock method above. 303 keeps them pliable and powder helps them to not stick.

I use an old sock. I put the sock on my hand then spray some powder on it and work it into the sock and spray a little more powder on it then wipe it on the seals. If you close the slide just a little then it is easy to reach the seal on the inside. I do the inside about twice a season and the outside when I hear it sticking when moving the slide.

  • There are two kinds of baby powder, talc and corn starch. I think that the talc is better because it is not organic.
