Auto Transfer Switch?

Does anyone recognize this transfer switch? 2004 KZ Sportsman 5th wheel, OE Generac genny, OE Parallax 7345 converter. I would have to cut the shelf in order to remove ATS cover to see internals.

  • Remove the cover, and look at the schematic on inside of cover which should have manufacturer.

That will be my next step.

Was it some sort of malfunction that prompted you to open the switch or just getting ready for the inevitable? It looks like a no-name generic that I had with worn contacts. The dealer identified it as being made by Magnatek. It had no diagram inside the cover. I found it easier to get a new one with a time delay. The old one did not have a delay circuit and had a tendency to chatter causing the contact points to burn. The delay allows the generator to get up to speed first.
  • It looks very similar to a Parallax ATS 301, but the label isn't identical. On the ATS 301 the label reads "line/generator" and the orientation is different, whereas your label reads "line\generator". That leads me to believe it's a Chinese knockoff. I did a Google search and found some that look very much like the photo posted.
  • That switch is part of the Parralax Converter box and chassis. This link will show what it looks like removed from the Chassis. Inside is a RELAY with the Shore Power and Genset wires connected. Then there are the 3 wires that leave it and connect to the 120 Breaker panel. Doug

To look at it, just remove the 4 screws holding the Converter chassis to the cabinet and pull it out as a complete unit. Remove those top 2 screws and the ATS cover comes off.

  • To answer your question simply, NO. It would be nice to know what is prompting you to ask, do you have a problem or just want to know the answer.

My reason for asking is curiosity. I like to know how things work. I put a new converter in recently, and just serviced the gen-set. I turned off the shore power and unplugged it. I left the c/b's on the gen-set turned off prior to starting. I didn't want to cause any damage to anything. Information on this RV is lacking on some items so better safe than sorry. I do want to confirm that things work like they are supposed to.
I did suspect it is from Parallax as that is the manufacturer of the original converter setup but I didn't see anything resembling it on their site but didn't look in archives either.
  • Great ! I found the documentation for this ATS on the Parallax web site, in the Archives Tech Docs section. PPS Line Generator Switch. Thanks all for pointing me in the right direction.
