Awing Problem

My awing does not close complete ! Can i take out the spline on the end like on a screen window and squire up the cloth ?? Which should let it close .

Moved to Tech Issues forum from DIT.

  • Unless you have done it before, do NOT take out the spring wound end cap. Ask for help from someone who has done it. Please.

As stated don't try that it's dangerous.
Did you check the arms and where the arms attached to the side of your MH? Leaves twigs etc can get jammed and the slide doesn't go all the way down and if the arms have been torn away or loosen where they bolt on the side of the RV....both of these will prevent your awning from rolling all the way up. Not always the spring. Good luck.
  • Yes, you can remove the screw and slide the awning fabric to square it up. The spline goes all the way across the fabric.
  • Is awning material held in place on roller with screws at each end?

Typically the material is held in place on rail (on side wall) with screws but not on roller.

Just hold awning arm with one hand and push roller/pull material with other hand to 'square' it up on roller.
Material should be same distance from end of roller on each end.

Mine would shift when fluttering from wind and I would have to shift the material to square it up.
After a few times I installed 1/4" short screws in roller grove right at edge of material. No more having to square up.
  • I usually keep my awning at a pretty good slope from one to the other when open so a little wind will cause it to shift in the groove on the tube. Rather than messing with the top end, why not slide the fabric in the tube to square it up. Mine slides very easy when there is no tension on it.
  • My unit is 12 volt i don't think there is a spring. i'l try the screw thing thank you !
