Battery Adventures Labor Day Weekend

Yeah I paid $103 on 14 October 2014 for a calcium calcium group 34 engine starting battery. Had no choice -- an LTH battery was 155 miles distant.

"I wonder if someone has improved upon the life of a wonder fully sealed calcium calcium battery?"

Short answer. Hell No

It lasted until 1 September. Today. 3-years 11 months. Perhaps 15 engine starts per week. Engine starts within 3 seconds. Never ever ever cycled. Not the tiniest amount.

For the last week the car started but I could not hear the starter motor. Today I heard the engine Unh...Unh...Unh... gear reduction starters require a lot less amps than a regulardriven starter.

One of my friends is a talented Mexican Mechanic. He was playing Chofer today.

"Que Quieres?" he asked politely.

"COSTCO!" I suggested.

With permission the battery was changed the first parking stall outside Costco's Tire Bays. Celsi tried the starter 3 times and the engine started normally with the normal sound and speed before you changed the battery.

"A Mexican driver would cross himself two times, and keep going"

"This driver is going to cross-asphalt ONCE and return with a new battery." I replied.

Four years later a 42 month free rep years a battery cost me five dollars less is six-pounds heavier.

Wanna know the brand name of the piece of snot calcium calcium battery?

Ask LTH and a government mouthpiece xerox reply will respond

Why do USA batteries have more cranking amperage (at the same price)?

Yeah, well tell that to the Diesel truck owners with group 31 and 65 batteries when they are trying to start their rigs in Toluca or Zacatecas in near zero F conditions.

USA is further from the equator, so the magnetic pull is stronger and requires more CCA. I thought everyone knew this..

  • Well at least Costco USA does not sell the very bottom end of the Johnson Controls Outofstate battery. The tiny group 34 has a label pasted on, 800 CCA. According to the Outofstate website, this is their top 34.

Cannot see the Lifeline used solely as an engine cranking battery. Bet my 105 dollar "It's A Goner" battery cost me more per year (3 years 11 months) than your Lifeline. "The -Either this battery or walk- puts a dent in plans",

"Mremium Grade Mexican Auto Parts is an oxymoron" The suppliers like nothing more than to buy Chinese scrap and charge you-is-raped prices"
  • 11th year on my Lifline and it's getting tired. Bought it one year after I bought my Lance Camper. Not much help I know. My next will be Fullriver. Reason because feel I got lucky. Better warranty with FR.
  • I just replaced the original starting battery in my '03 E-450. Seemed like it was time (15 years) even though it still started the engine every time. I've kept a battery tender on it most of the last 10 years while the vehicle was parked. We'll see how long the new one lasts.
  • Typical battery prices down here run to around $117 usd for a group 65 and 115 for a group 27 ciclando profundo Deep Cycle LTH battery. Almost all batteries weigh 10% less than their US cousins. Car batteries have 30-36 month warranties.
  • More than a hundred dollars three years ago versus 95 yesterday. The 103 dollar battery was significantly lighter and had a 90 day warranty. When I was testing batteries, it got to the point where I would decline to test calcium calcium. It would lead an an inevitable argument and hard feelings.

Totally sealed slosh batteries are suitable ONLY for emergency lighting where they may float for years, work 15 minutes, then resume floating for another year's long rest.

For some odd reason the old MoPar K car has a 1.2 milliamp draw and with no excessive parking time the GOHNER did not have a reason to fail except calcium calcium is worthless as a car battery or RV battery, or anything but extremely sporatic emergency hallway illumination.
  • Not sure I understand the pricing. Hope this one lasts a little better. My battery is from 2013 in my car. I'm considering adding a maintainer as the person who has been driving the car once per week no longer has a place to park it.
