battery problem

i have two 6 volt batteries under the steps for the coach and a 12 volt for the chassis. all the batteries are disconnected but when i put the key in the coach and turn the key i have power.i did have a problem with the fridge and they changed out the converter which did resolve the issue but now i have power with no batteries hooked up

You have a BIRD it seems (Bi Directional Relay Device or Delay take your pick).

Here is what is happening....

With the batteries off lien and the RV plugged in you are running off the converter, Mine is an 80 amp (I also have a 2nd one that's 100 amps). this is enough to light lights, furn the furnace, power the controllers on the assorted 12 volt controlled appliances (Water heater, Fridge, Even air conditioners in some cases) and operate engine computer and vehicle lights.

Since the house battery is not there.. The BIRD senses "Full charge" soon as the Converter comes on line and connects to the house and chassis systems together to charge that battery, which is also not there..

If you tried to START the coach. (Assuming you really did disconnect all batteries) odds are you'd not do well. (The BIRD woudl sense low voltage and isolate the two systems till the house filled up again).

Or... Is your coach equipped with Trik-L-Start or some similar device that charges the Chassis Battery from the Coach's electrical system? If so, then powering up the Coach would cause the Converter to power up every 12VDC load connected to its 12VDC outputs. A cross connection like Trik-L-Start would then send power to the Chassis and you'd be able to see it when you turned the key ON.

I wanted Four-Way Flashers on my '59 Impala. Added a kit that did that, following the instructions. Then I thought it'd be nice to have the Parking Brake Warning Light go on when I stepped on the Brake. Ok, wired that up. Then I learned that even if the Key was OFF, if I turned the Flashers ON with the Brake ON, my Radio would go On-Off-On-Off to the rhythm of the Flashers. There CAN be funny consequences when we add things.

You said when you turn the key you have power. Engine key I assume. Power to the whole coach or to the dash? Will it actually start? Disconnecting chassis battery, on some coaches, does not remove all power to engine. Some need power to ECM to retain memory.

Make sure you're unplugged from shore power.

If you are hooked to power then it is supplying the 12 volt system through the converter. If you are not hooked to power then you have not successfully disconnected the batteries.

Your inverter/converter is supplying 12 volt power to your coach from the shore power system. It normally works a whole lot better if the batteries are connected to the system, but apparently your system will function without the batteries.
