Battery weight difference

Well my batteries appear to be no good, they came with the unit a 2003 wilderness lite when we bought it around 2010.
so now I believe they are two trojan 24tm 12 volt, am thinking I might go two costco 6 volt.
my question, is the weight difference between the batteries which is 16 lbs, for a total of 32 lbs more going to be an issue?
these sit on frames on the outside of the frame on the right hand side behind the typical door we all have.
how can one tell if the extra weight would be an issue, I do have to find out also the size difference too.
Anybody go up in weight with batteries mounted on the outside frame?
  • It's not going to be an issue but Costco batteries have a crappy warranty. I'm liking Fullriver from recommendations from my mariner noodleheads and the warranty is 7 yesrs.
  • Thanks for the responses, I tend to over think things.
But better to be safe than sorry, and yes, I was surprised that there is no tie downs for them, the bottom one has a metal frame, the top seems to just be a wood platform, but I do need to look closer to see just how it is set up, and putting a hold down on may be the smart thing to do.

And I see what is said about the white wire, would make a more even cycling through of electricity, just realized that pic was from when we first brought it home.
  • I would not be concerned in the least about the 10-15% increase in weight. It's not a big difference. I would see about rigging up some sort of a strap to keep the batteries in place a little more solidly, though I must admit what it has presently does appear to be working out just fine.

Do measure to be sure you have adequate height; the GC2 batteries are a little taller than most 12V batteries. I think you do have enough room, but it's not the easiest to judge from an online picture!
  • I doubt the weight will be a problem, but I just wanted to mention that the white wire should be connected to the bottom battery at the black wire. The reason is that the slight resistance will have one battery doing more work.
