By pass water pump sound

The water pump in our newer RV is called a by pass pump. I’m not sure how it’s different from our shur-flo in the old RV but it definitely sounds different. Instead of a low constant rumble, it is a two stage rumble grr-uh grr-uh but when letting the water run which we seldom do it levels out. Is this sound normal for a bypass pump?

    Bypass Pump
Has a bypass valve that starts opening at 40# to help level out the pump flow
**Low demand the old pump would start/stop cycle
**Bypass and low demand pump runs but bypass cycling to maintain 'steady' flow w/o the pump cycling on/off
  • Thanks! I had a 1 gallon pressure tank on our old pump. It would help keep the pump from coming on especially at night for a flush or two. I’m thinking of putting one on this system as well. I’m not used to the pump coming on immediately when using water. The instructions say because of the bypass feature an accumulator is not needed. But I think that’s because it handles low demand better. I’m glad the sound is normal though.
