Camping World Oakwood GA damaged by fridge...advice?

I'd like opinions on how to proceed:

September 6th:
Dropped our camper off at CW as our extended warranty was nearing the end. Had a bad propane regulator and stove hinge broken. Camper was finally ready October 5th.

October 5th:
FINALLY picked up camper. When they pulled it around, left rear tire was FLAT. They aired it up and I noticed some sidewall cracking. Tire held air and beat feet to get new tires installed.

Finally get home that evening from new tires and get inside camper. First thing I notice is that the faux panel on the fridge has slid down and touching the floor. I open the fridge and there are two trim pieces of fridge INSIDE the fridge. I am beyond 100% POSITIVE that there was no damage. We had just returned from camping on September 5th and unloaded fridge/freezer.

October 6th:
I call CW to talk to service adviser. He was out and asked for voice mail.

October 11th:
Returned from camping and took camper back to CW.

October 21 (today):
Had called twice this week without a return call. FInally drove the 40 minutes to CW. I was told that there was a policy that issues MUST be reported within 2 weeks of service. I explained it was only 6 days. Then they said that they wouldn't cover it because I couldn't prove to them that I didn't do it.

They had told me that the fridge frame was warped and fridge would need to be replaced. They asked if it could be repaired, would I be ok with that. I said if it could be repaired and work 100% like it did when I dropped it off, I would be fine. They asked if it has to be replaced, would I pay for half?

I told them that I didn't break it, so no.

My theory: If fridge door is left open and super slide retracted...the dinette base will hit fridge door. It's the reason I either make sure it is closed or bungeed before slide retracted.

I think they left it open while retracting slide.

Advice???
  • Leave a message on this board at Good Sam Club, they are good about checking out and solving problems...
  • Yes re-post on one of the Good Sam forums to get their attention..good luck
  • WHY didn't you go inside and inspect stove hinge repair...then you would have seen fridge damage.??

Don't you inspect repairs after having them fixed?

Hard to prove AFTER you leave the lot.

Hope for 'good will' gesture cause you are w/o leverage or means of pushing issue.

    HEY MODERATOR:
Why not 'move' this thread to Camping World Service and Installation or Camping World Extended Service Plan section?
  • Even though the name is the same, not all CW's are the same because different people work at different stores, please understand that. I've had trouble with the CW store in Albuquerque even when pointing out defects in their workmanship before my RV left the bay where it was . . . "worked on." Without being specific, I don't feel I should pay the CW technicians $120/hour, then have to explain to them how to do their job correctly without damaging other unrelated components.

For that reason, this last time I chocked my losses up up to experience (over $300 in my case on a $375 repair ticket) and won't go there anymore. Hopefully your future experiences are different. Just ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS check their work before you leave if you decide to do business there.

Sorry to hear of another CW bad experience.

  • 1. You had a LP problem and a stove problem. WHY would they even touch the refer?????
    2. Maybe YOU did not get the refer secured and when they did indeed operate the slide the scenario you listed happened? That makes it your fault. BUT, the tech should have called his supervisor and showed the problem and they then called you. Not just shove the parts inside the refer.
    3. I fail to see why they have to replace the refer. Just the doors where damaged?
    4. THIS WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS GO INSIDE AND AROUND YOUR RV WHEN YOU PICK UP THE RV. DON'T HAVE TIME? BS. YOU CANNOT SPEND 5 MINUTES DOING THIS? Doug

I delivered the camper with slides closed and fridge secured. What they do while it's on their property is their responsibility.

They said frame of fridge is bent.

I should have checked it better and usually do, but we were headed out on a trip and it was 1630 and tire shop closed at 1730...didn't have much choice b
