Can I add a bit of hose between drain and macerator?

Instead of hanging the macerator off the black/gray drain, can I add a couple feet of hose between them, allowing the macerator to set on the ground? Any reason not to?

  • I like having a clear elbow before so you and see when it's almost drained.

I think it is. Now, if you were driving down the road with it hanging on there, I would give a different answer. Driving down the road, when you hit speed bumps or potholes, you have a dynamic load that is many times higher than just the weight of the macerator hanging on there while it is sitting still.
  • Is it silly to worry about the weight of the macerator hanging off the drain?
  • My only concern would be getting that regular sewer hose fully drained, plus an extra item to clean.
But mechanically using it that way, no problem.

Done it up to around 30 feet on one occasion. (Had to use a portable battery for the pump).

At least one model comes with a short length of 3" hose on the inlet (This model is mounted in the RV.. gives you the choice of using the pump or a straight 3" stinky slinky).
